Hello

Your MultiHeadlines addon is the best RSS addon for nuke weve seen... and its only getting better

I see you almost are ready to release a new version and was wondering if you could include these requests

PCN has used this addon in our releases, but always have to modify the program to fit our needs. These are some basic request that maybe could be used in future versions.

1. Set all image borders to 0 - and include a border= for all images
2. Do not include width= & height= on any image, this allows people to choose their own image heights and widths
3. Give us an option when displaying in the HOME to leave the header area, like we adjusted it here: Go There
4. Google has great news but their extended bullsh** section they add to it, always makes it too long, is there a way to leave out the extended section they always include.

thanks for a great addon

Welcome and thanks for that kind words.

Quote:
1. Set all image borders to 0 - and include a border= for all images

That was an old issue [I think you are talking about Multiheadlines v1.0]. Since version 2.0 every image have border = "0"...or if you noticed somewhere in my code[version >2] please tell me where is it.

Quote:
2. Do not include width= & height= on any image, this allows people to choose their own image heights and widths

Well I don't know what to say about this[pretty much I disagree]. Maybe people have this logos with different sizes and they just don't want to open a image editor, resize, save, upload these images. I think there must be a width and height for those images, fixed or variable dimensions, but must be. I always said that people should choose/resize the logos to 60x20[or other dimensions] and don't use big images resized to 60x20.
However what you asking for, can be done by modifying a single line of code[even less].

Quote:
3. Give us an option when displaying in the HOME to leave the header area,....

Then how the users will see only the last X feeds, will submit a feed url, jump to a certain category or even important how will they be able to browse the various feed categories.

Quote:
4. Google has great news but their extended bullsh** section they add to it, always makes it too long, is there a way to leave out the extended section they always include.

Yes it can be done but....
a) nobody[I mean the big news agencies] will allow you[we] to edit the content of the feeds before displaying it onto your site.
b) the pattern aren't always the same on Google feeds so if I'll ever do this it will be tough.
c) you must keep in mind that this isn't only about Google and every feed url will be analyzed by same sets of rules.

Quote:
And an option choice to display different feeds amounts from 5 or 10 to something like 4, 8, 12.

Ok I'll keep that in mind.

Once again wellcome and thanks for your thoughts.

Aikon

Heres a test site that PCN just installed v2.0.5 on, view the lower part of the frontpage.

--------------

Then we altered it, and added some nice images (PCN would be glad to give you this image logo pack we made, if u would like to include it in future releases)

Basically we opened the index.php file and set all image borders to =0 and installed border=0 that were missing on a few images.. you can see these borders showing on logos and pictures on v2.0.5 when you first install it.

We also removed all width= & height= for all images... as you can see when people create logos and size them all to the same size, they look very nice and are not restricted NOW by the limitations you put on them in the index.php file.

PCN has made these adjustments to every version you have released, its not a hard adjustment to do and we dont mind doing it evertime, but we think this makes the appeal of the module much better.

thanks for your time

pcnuke, I understand what you are saying but I don't see any borders around logos neither in IE nor Opera, Firefox, Netscape under LInux or Windows.

I will appreciate if you'll be so kind to tell me where is the border atribute missing on <img > tag in index.php or anywhere.

If u are refering to the version on our test site, it has already been edited for all these items I mentioned so you wont see any problems

Ah... as for the missing border issue, its been a few days since I did that file, but it was only on about 1-3 images that were missing the border=0

The easiest way to fix this issue, as I remember was to open the index.php file and do a quick search for something like:

<img src=

and then check the code line after it to see if it included a border=0

as I remember theres one missing in an image close to the top of the file - I dont have any specific line numbers for you... sorry

-------

On the comment I made above above changing the amount of news to show... from 5, 10, 20, etc...

as we changed it in v1.0

to 4,8,12,16,32,64 as i remember, because this allowed all of these numbers to be split equally by 2 - in case you want to use 2 columns as many people do

Common man, I know how to fix it[everybody does].

I just wanted to give me the exact place[into the code - eventual line number] of these missed atributes, if you can.

Of course I did search for any missed border atr on image tags, everywhere, but I didn't find anything wrong thats why I wrote these replies. Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

pcnuke, only today I noticed that you have removed the copyright [copyright.php] from Multiheadlines addons.

May I ask you why?

I do know that it's about GNU GPL but you are not authorized to remove the visible link [in my case] to the author site [or email].
Quote:
If you are an original 3rd party developer who does not like people altering your work, it is legal and is allowed by the GPL licenses that also covers PHP-Nuke and any addons that needs PHP-Nuke as a basis for its operations.

I agree but not like this, this is absolutely immoral and unethical.

This file[copyright.php from every addon not just mine] holds the visible link to the authors site so would you be so kind to put back on your site and on your packages[old or new] this file[and don't tell that you've put the link somewhere else, just leave it there at it's place] or I will spread the word about your practices to see what people have to say about this.

I'm waiting a day or two for your public reply.

we do this to any module that when we display on our site in the HOME location

when have added it to our copyright version section, which lists all included addons Names, Developers, & HTML links to their websites, to compensate for such actions when they happen. PCN has also issued other notices on our website for everyone to read, if you look around the site you will see these.

PCN is not trying to not show you as the developer of this addon

it would be nice if you would allow the forum edit button on this website, so people can edit their posts when needed...

This is an example of our COPYRIGHT 'Version' module that we include with all our releases, which is used to take the place of a copyright link, when needed. It is the way we adjust for copyrights in our systems, so everything is shown in 1 location and people can go there to find where they get help from the developers. Much simpler... we feel.

and when an item is being built or tested and is not yet released we may not be showing links... because its in the TESTING.... phase

also one more thing (that forum edit link would sure be nice right now, it could be 1 reply instead of 3 on this topic, oh well its your server space)

I see you have also removed the copyright when dispayingthe MultiHeadlines to the frontpage as... put in HOME, as do may people. I think. This must be because itthe copyright link becomes an EYESORE, but at least our site compensated for the removal of the copyright link by putting it to another location

It's not about this, I'm talking about removing the copyright.php file. You have completely removed this file. Put back or get rid of my addon. The copyright will not be visible when using the module. Do you know this? or just pretend that you don't know.
pcnuke wrote:

If a user from a site that uses pcnuke will see the addon and he'll like it where you should go to take the module or for support on your site or mine.

pcnuke wrote:

Ok then, put back the copyright.php where it belongs and the whole story will be ended.

How interesting you didn't do the same with the NSN scripts?

I saw you have made some addons. How do you like if someone do what you have done? [take the credits away from you and put the link to your site to another place where it not belongs].

pcnuke wrote:

What people?...The people from your site, is it? What about the rest of the sites who uses pcnuke? You didn't thought about them, do you?

pcnuke wrote:

Don't remove further more the copyright file from any addons, why a developer should be "compensated" in this way for his work?

pcnuke wrote:

Don't bother anymore about this, this is my personal option and will stay like it is.

So bottom line:
If you really meant the kind words that you've said on the beginning of this topic and you trully respect my work and further more you believe in "open source" stream then put back the intact copyright.php file where it belongs and the whole story will end, this is my only one and final request.

I don't want to talk about this anymore [here Exclamation ].
If you refuse to comply to my request I will do what is necessary [this is the last time I'm saying].

p.s. Just put back the copyright.php file[no further talks] and the whole story will end.
